SOME early-morning journeys have been withdrawn from a bus service which was saved at the beginning of the year due to public pressure.
At the beginning of the year, Firstbus withdrew all 118 journeys – Monday to Saturday – after 7pm, the Saturday daytime service was reduced from half-hourly to hourly and the Sunday service was taken off completely – apart from two journeys subsidised by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT).
However, after receiving a range of complaints from people and meetings between local politicians and the managing director of First, SPT stepped in to subsidise evening journeys and they were re-introduced from February 7.
Now two journeys in each direction have been taken off – from Baljaffray at 6.45am and 7.45am and from the city at 7.41am and 8.42am.
A spokesperson for Firstbus, said: “These journeys were very poorly used and, as such, the vast majority of our customers will not be impacted by this change.
“Other than these small changes, service 118 continues to operate as normal with a commercial service throughout the day and an evening service operated under tender to SPT.”
