Festival's £100 prize is a piece of cake

The contest is a highllight of this weekend’s seocnd annual Food and Drink Festival, centred around Clarkston Hall, which will aim to be even bigger and better than last year’s inaugural event.

Clarkston Hall will be filled with market stalls from local producers and suppliers, showing off everything from craft beers to cupcakes, and from coffee to cocktails.

The Festival will also feature its first Hand Made Sale, with stalls from more than 20 different crafters offering handmade jewellery, knits, frames, cushions, tartan crafts, animal-printed gifts, glass art, children’s clothing and cuddly toys.

There’s also an entire area dedicated to Healthy Clarkston, featuring various businesses which make healthy lifestyle choices a major part of their offer.

Meanwhile a demo tent will see chefs sharing their favourite recipes and top tips with talented home cooks, and there will be a cafe-bar marquee where people can relax with their purchases and enjoy a coffee or perhaps a glass of wine.

Anyone entering the Great Clarkston Bake Off contest – which has the very broad theme of “cake” – is asked to bring their masterpiece to the hall and fill in a short application form from 11am on Saturday.

Cakes should be brought to the Hall on a plain cake board or tray that you don’t mind an entry number being stuck on to, and all entries have to be registered by 1pm to have a chance of winning.

There are both under-16 and over-16 categories, so there’s plenty of opportunity for junior chefs to show what they can do.
