East Dunbartonshire is surfing the wave of superfast Internet coverage sweeping Scotland - and hopes are high that even more local communities will benefit soon.
More than 1,400 additional premises in and around Bearsden now have access to ‘superfast broadband’ - meaning they can use the Internet for business, pleasure and leisure at lightning speeds.
The latest phase of the £410 million Digital Scotland rollout is currently underway and aims to connect more than 4,100 homes and business in East Dunbartonshire to internet speeds of up to 80Mbps.
That will significantly improve coverage for homes in Bearsden.
People can find out the plans for their house or business through an interactive map on the Digital Scotland website. The map allows people to enter their postcode or phone number and check their superfast broadband status - visit http://www.digitalscotland.org/whereandwhen
Councillor Alan Moir, Convener of the Development and Regeneration Committee, said: “I’m delighted that superfast broadband coverage is starting to reach more residents and businesses in our communities. The Digital Scotland website indicates that Milngavie will be included ‘soon’ in the roll-out.
“This is excellent news. Having access to high-speed broadband is now regarded by many as an essential utility for households and businesses - supporting the economy and increasing social inclusion.”
