Two fantastic exhibitions are currently on show at The Lillie Art Gallery in Milngavie until November 7.
There are over 100 works by members of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists on display including oil paintings and watercolours, to ceramics, glass and jewellery.
The Glasgow Society of Women Artists, originally called the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists, was established in 1882 by eight women artists and art teachers. All of the founding members had studied at Glasgow School of Art. Current membership of the Society however, is drawn from a wide geographical spread across Scotland.
An exhibition called ‘Imagine an Island’ which shows images of Iona by Barbara Sellars.
Barbara has been a regular visitor to the Isle of Iona for 35 years. In the spring of 2011 she began a project of photographing the island’s landscape every month for 12 consecutive months. It was just the beginning and she has returned many times since to continue making images.
This collection reflects her perspective of Iona and the developing relationship with the island that she has made through her photography. It includes intimate landscape imagery of patterns in the sand, fleeting moments of light on wave and the sculptural form and colour of Iona’s ancient rocks as well as the bigger view of an island in its differing moods from dawn to dusk.
The Lillie Art Gallery is on Station Road, Milngavie, and is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 1pm & 2pm to 5pm.
