Shoppers in Milngavie are being urged to donate food that will be distributed among the needy this Christmas.
Over the next couple of days Tesco Milngavie will be running its third Neighbourhood Food Collection in which customers will be invited to donate food in store from today (Friday November 29) until Sunday December 1.
Tesco will be joined by Foodbanks charity the Trussell Trust and food redistribution charity FareShare for the collection.
Customers at the Milngavie Tesco will be given a special selected shopping list when they enter the store and will be asked to pick up an item of food such as long-life milk, cereal, tinned foods and tea and coffee before donating it at the end of their shop.
The food will then be distributed to the local Scotstoun foodbank and Springburn FareShare depot before being given to people in times of crisis.
Maureen Gallagher, store manager at Milngavie Tesco said: “Our customers were incredibly generous when we held our last food collection in the summer, so we’re hoping to collect an even bigger total this time around.
“In the run up to Christmas we want to do our bit to feed those in need and volunteers from the local foodback and FareShare depot are really looking forward to taking part in the collection.”
Tesco will be topping up total donations by a further 30%.
