A MILNGAVIE girl who hopes to become the next Darcy Bussell is one step closer to achieving her dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer.
Evelyn Blue (17), who has been a pupil at the Linda Lowry School of Ballet in Bearsden for 11 years, has started full-time training at London Studio Centre on the BA in classical ballet course.
The former Douglas Academy pupil will study many forms of dance, including ballet, pointe, pas de deux, jazz, modern, contemporary and repertoire.
Evelyn had the pick of where to study dance as she also gained places at Ballet West, The Hammond School, Kate Simmons Dance Ltd, Northern Ballet School and Tring Park School for the Performing Arts.
Evelyn said: “I was so happy when I found out I was accepted and completely shocked when I found out that I had funding. I really hope that after I have finished my three years here that I will be taken into a company and be able to perform every night. I would love to just be able to dance for the rest of life.
“My first term at London Studio Centre is coming to a close and I have learnt so much and have had to work so hard. The teachers are brilliant and give the most helpful feedback. I will be working hard for as long as I can.”
Her former dance teacher, Mrs Lowry, said: “Evelyn has been a delight to teach, she is very determined and her driving ambition led her to audition for many places.
“Although we will miss her very much, a place on this prestigious course is just reward for her many years of training and commitment. The whole school is very proud of her and we wish her every success for the future, we will follow her career with interest.”
Evelyn recently passed the Royal Academy of Dance and International Dance Teachers Association Advanced 1 Ballet exams with distinction, as well as dancing in the school’s annual performances and competing at various competitions throughout Scotland - winning many awards, including The Highest Mark Ballet Award at The SDTA Stage Dance Festival.
She has also spent several summers training with English National Ballet at their international summer school held at their headquarters in London as well as with Northern Ballet in Leeds.
