An annual music award in honour of much-loved Milngavie musician Erne Parkin, who died in July 2009, takes place at the town hall next month.

The last two events have raised nearly £3,000 for the Suzy Fund - a charity that Erne supported through the frequent gigs he put on. The Suzy Fund helps provide food for malnourished children in developing countries.

Erne’s son Mike and his business partner Colin McKenzie organise the event.

Mr McKenzie said: “We started the award in 2011 and the success of this has led us to continue putting on this show.

“The award was a tribute to the late Erne Parkin and the work he did throughout the East Dunbartonshire area with music of all genres.

“The award is designed to give up and coming East Dunbartonshire musicians the recognition and focus on the fantastic range of talent in the area.”

The event will showcase individuals and give them the experience of playing live in front of large crowds of around 200 people. Also involved in the project with Colin and Mike are friends Jason McCabe and Callum Park.

There are still spots open for anyone who would like to take part and try to win the title and a cash prize.

All acts, from choirs, solo artists, bands and duets are welcome to enter. To enter email

The event is on November 8. Doors open 7pm, show starts 7.30pm. The cost is £8 a tickets or four for £28.
