Stuart Stevenson captures image of aurora borealis

LANARK is not the sort of place you would expect to see the northern lights but this stunning image of the aurora borealis above Lanark was captured by amateur photographer Stuart Stevenson on Thursday evening.

“I have been very interested in the aurora for about five years,” said Stuart, a graphic designer who lives in Braidwood.

“For five years I have spent many cold nights standing looking for them when they were supposed to be there and have never seen them.”

Receiving a hint of what was to come, on Friday night he went out to the Carnwath Road and headed for the back of Lanark to a suitably high and dark vantage point – and this time was well rewarded!
