Eastwood band is piping hot at Cowal

Glasgow Battalion Boys Brigade pipe band rounded off their competition season with success at the historic Cowal Highland Gathering last week.

Captain Colin Kennedy of 145th Glasgow Eastwood commented: “The band were over the moon when they were announced in the prize list at the march past.”

The band was awarded with the David Burnett Sheild for the highest place BB band & The Boys’ Brigade Centenary Shield for musical presentation and marching and discipline.

The band currently have 15 playing members consisting of nine pipers and six drummers, the youngest of which is nine years old.

The band have started their recruiting campaign and welcome all new members.

And are already looking to capitalise on their success in the new season.

Captain Kennedy said: “With a hard winter’s practice, we hope to add to our trophy collection next season.

“We are looking to take part in a number major contests, next year, including the Scottish championships in Dumbarton.

“Also, the British championships and the European which, this year, is in Forres.

“Of course, the World championships is the peak and we had a taste of that when we debuted in Glasgow last month.”

In terms of band recruitment, we are ideally looking for pipers or new learners for the practice chanter but we welcome any new recruits looking to join.
