A REPORT carried out on behalf of East Dunbartonshire Council on proposals that could see primary school mergers and closures has been rejected by members on the authority’s Parent Council.

The Parent Council met on Tuesday night and passed an 11-9 vote of ‘no confidence’ in the findings of report.

One of the parents, Niall Campbell, who has children attending one of the threatened schools, Baldernock Primary School, said: “This is a clear message to Councillor Geekie, the education convener Councillor Gotts and Gordon Currie that we have dismissed the IBP Report and Gordon Curries findings.

“We’d like to know - what now for the primary school plans?

“If the education department can’t say they have the parents support how can it be carried forward?

“They’ve got to listen to our views.

“This vote may have no bearing on what happens now, but later in the process we could say the council has acted for poltical reasons rather than educational.”
