East Dunbartonshire approves its Gaelic Language Plan

East Dunbartonshire council has approved the final version of its Gaelic Language Plan 2013-16.

The approval of the plan means that over the next three years, the council will continue to encourage and facilitate the use of Gaelic including Gaelic classes for residents, as well as promoting the availability of Gaelic provision in schools.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said: “East Dunbartonshire has a range of initiatives to promote the Gaelic language and culture. Public bodies, including local authorities are required to produce a Gaelic Language Plan and ours builds on the Gaelic language provision that we already have in the area, such as the successful Gaelic Language Unit and nursery within Meadowburn Primary in Bishopbriggs.”
