Dont’ forget the Drymen Show is on this weekend

It’s finally time for this year’s Drymen Show - which opens its doors this Saturday (May 31) in the showfield next to the bridge over the river Endrick.

From ducks to dogs and Zwarbles sheep to Highland cows, this is Drymen’s 186th agricultural show - with something for everyone it’s a really great day out for all the family.

This year’s headline act is Quack Commandos, a hilarious show which demonstrates the skill and speed of the border collie in action with a flock of Indian runner ducks, including a little audience participation.

Another highlight will be the sheep shearing demonstration as well as a host of specialist cattle and sheep contests. Many farmers and livestock keepers will be hoping to win a prize or two.

The afternoon entertainment in the main ring will include fancy dress horse and rider competition, heavy horse turn out, vintage tractor procession, highland dance display and the annual Drymen Duck race. Kids might like to take part in a number of races or the football tournament.

To get up close with some small furry friends go along to this year’s Pets corner for a hands on experience.

Local primary school and nurseries will also be displaying work by their children at the show so look out for those creative writers and poets in the Schools tent. Or you could visit the SWRI for some fine examples of home baking and jam making.

If thrills are your thing, the fun fair will provide something for children of all ages.

You can take a picnic if you are going for the whole day or enjoy tasty treats from the food and drink stalls on offer. Many local business will be showing off their wares and locally made crafts can be viewed undercover in the new craft tent.

Entry costs £7 for adults, £4 for children and senior citizens. A family ticket is £20. Parking is free.
