In addition, Jennifer Kitchener - a pupil at Merkland School - is receiving £600 towards her dream of representing Great Britain in Los Angeles next July, as part of the 4x100m relay team.

The final of the East Dunbartonshire Business Awards 2014 was held on Friday 9 May at The Eagle Lodge, Bishopbriggs, and a key part of the evening was the raising of funds for a variety of charities and organisations.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said: “It is genuinely inspirational to hear the great work taking place in our communities and I know from speaking to some of the recipients just how valuable support of this kind is.

“I would like to say a huge thankyou to everyone who contributed to the wonderful amount raised - it is genuinely much appreciated.
