Investigation after offensive homophobic and anti-Semitic graffiti in Bishopbriggs

Police are investigating a hate crime at Bishopbriggs after a 30ft high wall was daubed with homophobic and anti-Semitic graffiti in the Springfield area of the town.

A dog walker reported the offensive graffiti to local police a few days ago.

A police spokesperson at Kirkintilloch said: “Police Scotland have received a report of a Hate Crime Incident involving homophobic and anti-Semitic graffiti in the Bishopbriggs area.

“We are investigating this incident and would appeal to anyone in the community with information to call 101 and quote incident number 0890 of the 14/11/2020.

“Hate Crime is abhorrent and there is no place for it in our community.

“I encourage anyone who is the victim of Hate Crime or is aware of a Hate Crime in East Dunbartonshire to report it to the police directly or via one of our Third Party Reporting Centres. Full information can be found on the Police Scotland Website.”

Thomas Glen, Depute Chief Executive - Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets at East Dunbartonshire Council said: “We received a complaint concerning offensive graffiti on private property at Springfield Crescent in Bishopbriggs and we are currently assisting Police Scotland on this matter.
