Dramatic siege in Kirkintilloch at an end

Police said late this afternoon a man who had barricaded himself inside the property at Kingsway off Ellisland Drive in Harestanes, had been taken to hospital.

Officers in full riot gear stormed the mid-terraced house around 12.45pm today.

They, along with a number of uniformed officers, a police dog unit, the fire service and three ambulances had rushed to the scene this morning. The area was cordoned off and people in neighbouring properties evacuated.

It is believed the man, in his 50s, had threatened to blow up the property. No one else was in the house at the time.

A police spokesperson said: “A man barricaded himself within a flat in Kingsway, Kirkintilloch on Wednesday, October 26.

“Local officers attended and public order officers and negotiators were also in attendance.

“The man was removed from the flat and has been taken to hospital.”
