Attempted break-in to house in Bearsden

Someone tried to get into a house on Ascog Road, Bearsden, yesterday (Wednesday, November 9) at 1.30pm but they were disturbed by a house alarm and ran off.

Constable Charlene Miller from Kirkintilloch Police Office, said: “We are advising people to make sure they keep their home secure.

“If you have an alarm make sure it’s set and keep valuables out of sight of windows.”

Other advice includes: If you share a communal stairwell, ensure the door entry system is well maintained.

Do not keep large sums of cash in your home.

Make your house looks occupied when you are out - use timer switches on lights even when you are at work.

Keep car and house keys well away from your doors and windows. Thieves use fishing rods and poles with magnets to reach through letterboxes and open windows in order to steal keys.

Don’t leave valuables in your car.

Lastly, make sure your house, outbuildings and vehicles are locked, and close all windows at night and when you are not at home.
