A consultation is currently underway on plans to move the Lenzie Post Office from its current location to the Day-Today Express Convenience Store just 20 metres away on Kirkintilloch Road.

The new ‘Post Office Local’ branch would open from 6am-7pm Monday to Saturday and 8am-4pm on Sundays - offering an extra 40 hours of Post Office service every week compared to the current set-up.

Local husband-and-wife Louise and Rehman Dar, who own the Day-Today Express shop, say they are “excited” about offering the service.

Louise told the Herald: “We are really happy at the prospect of taking over the post office.

“We have a complete refurbishment planned and want to make a lovely wee Post Office to serve the Lenzie community.

“There are about four weeks left of the consultation so hopefully we can get started in the next five or six weeks if we get the go-ahead.”

The proposed move is part of major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

Suzanne Richardson, Post Office regional network manager for Scotland, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Lenzie and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

She added: “This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

During the public consultation, Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on the proposal.
