STRATHENDRICK Film Society - the next film ‘Great While Silence’ (108mins) is being shown tomorrow (Friday). This is the re-master of a 1924 documentary on Scott’s expedition to the South Pole. Starts at 7.30pm in Balfron High School.

DRYMEN Church is holding a coffee morning with a home baking stall on Saturday from 10am to midday. Everyone is welcome, entrance costs £2 for adults and 50p for children.


PICK up a bargain at a jumble sale on Saturday from 11am to 1pm in Menzies Hall, Fintry. There will be homewares, clothes, books children’s clothes and toys, a cake stall, raffle and bottle stall. Cost £2 for adults, £1 concessions, tea and cake are included in the entry fee. The event is in aid of Fintry Out of School club.


GO along to the library and join in the celebrations for World Book Night and Shakespeares’ Birthday with Lizanne McKerrell on Monday, April 23 at 7.30pm. Tickets are free with a free book to take away. Donations to Book Aid International.

THE annual house to house collection in aid of Cancer Research UK by the Strathendrick Local Committee is going to be carried out in Balfron, Buchanan, Buchlyvie, Croftamie, Drymen, Fintry, Gartmore, Strathblane and Blanefield between Monday, April 16, and Saturday, April 21.

Volunteers will distribute envelopes for donations to every house in the area. Collection tins will also be available for those who wish to donate in that way. It is hoped that local support for this worthy cause will continue at the high level shown in previous years.
