Over 2,000 account holders at a soon-to-be closed bank have been urged to get in touch with East Dunbartonshire Council.
The council’s Municipal Bankwill cease to trade on Friday, February 13, 2015.
All customers were sent letters with details of the timescales and the options available to them in October.
Reminder letters were issued earlier this month and all customers should have received letters by the end of this month.
However, many of the initial letters have been returned and the Bank is looking for help to try and trace some of its account holders.
To date nearly 300 accounts have been closed, leaving approximately 2,200 accounts still open.
Council leader Rhondda Geekie is urging customers who haven’t yet closed their accounts to make arrangements to do so as soon as possible.
She said: “A number of people have come forward to close their accounts but many more still need to take action.
“We are working hard to try and trace all of our account holders. If you know someone who may have a Municipal Bank account and has moved away from the area then I would urge you to tell them to get in touch.
“Help is available at the bank’s branches in Kirkintilloch, Bearsden and Lennoxtown and accounts can also be closed by post if you are unable to visit a branch in person.
“A list of frequently asked questions is available on the Municipal Bank webpage and advice and support on other options for banking can be by the Citizens Advice Bureau who can be contacted on 0141 775 3220.
“We will continue to work closely with partners and alternative service providers to support customers with alternative arrangements.”
The bank will be operating limited opening hours over the Christmas period.
Customers looking to make rent and council tax payments will be able to do so online, by telephone or at payment kiosks located in Kirkintilloch Hub, Bearsden Hub, Bishopbriggs Library and Lennoxtown Library.
