Concern over traffic chaos with week-long road closure

A councillor says he is 'deeply concerned over traffic chaos' because of a week-long road closure scheduled from Sunday.

East Dunbartonshire Council is to shut Park Road (B8050) in Milngavie from 8am on Sunday, February 11 to Sunday, February 18 for upgrading works to be carried out.

Milngavie Councillor Jim Gibbons is urging local people to plan their journeys well in advance.

Alternative routes and advance warning signs will be in place.

Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and, where possible, for local residents/businesses who will have been notified.

‘No waiting’ restrictions will be in place on South Mains Road.

The council says the work is necessary to upgrade the condition of Park Road.

Milngavie Councillor Jim Gibbons said: “I am pleased the road is being resurfaced as this has been long overdue, but I am deeply concerned about the traffic chaos that there could be in the Milngavie and Bearsden area.

“The area is not suitable for increased volumes of traffic and there have been a number of accidents in the Craigdhu Road area.

“It is the half term school holiday but this only lasts until the Thursday, so please plan your journey ahead and HGV’s should avoid going up and down South Mains Road and the surrounding residential streets.”

Temporary traffic signals and pedestrian crossings are to be used to control movements at various locations as required. The temporary traffic signals will be manually controlled between 8am and 6pm.
