Community effort brings life-saving aid to Giffnock

The project has been made possible after generous support from Giffnock Village BID, East Renfrewshire Good Causes, Woodfarm Community Centre and East Renfrewshire Council, as well as members of the public.

The defibrillator can be used by any member of the public simply by following the instructions on the front of the housing.

Research has shown that the sooner anyone who suffers a cardiac arrest can receive first aid by means of a defibrillator, the greater their chances of survival.

Such aid can be given by any member of the public simply by following the voice commands built into the defibrillator itself.

Giffnock Community Council chairman Jim Martin said: “Having this equipment installed centrally in Giffnock Village is an important contribution to the welfare of the community in Giffnock.”

Provost Jim Fletcher, who was delighted to attend the installation of the equipment, said: “Well done to the Community Council for their hard work in ensuring this potentially life-saving equipment is now available for the whole Giffnock Community to use if needed.”

Russell MacMillan of East Renfrewshire Good Causes told the Extra: “In these times of continued austerity and increasing demands on our public services, it is wonderful to see our own community coming together to help itself and this is a perfect example of what proper joint working can achieve.
