Commonwealth Games Flotilla will sail up the Clyde this Saturday

The sight of 250 boats taking part in the Commonwealth Flotilla this Saturday (July 26) is sure to be a magnificent view.

They depart from Greenock at 10am to sail up the Clyde into Glasgow, arriving at Pacific Quay at approximately 1pm. The event website - – will be tracking 10 boats and also has some of the stories of the boats and the crews taking part.

A spokesperson for the event which is being run by the Royal Yachting Association Scotland, said: “The response to this event has been truly amazing. The unique opportunity it offers to sail up the Clyde into the city centre, being part of the official Festival 2014 programme for the Commonwealth Games, and also the chance to sail in a large flotilla has made it extra special for the 1500 plus participants taking part.”

The schedule is as follows:

8am to 11am – Departure in Greenock. There is a spectator area in Greenock outside of the Beacon Arts Centre where you will get an excellent view of the 250 boats gathering before the departure.

12pm to 3pm - Flotilla passing the Riverside Museum. The flotilla is expected to start passing the riverside museum in Glasgow around 1pm. You will get a fantastic view of the flotilla as it passes by just before arriving at Pacific Quay.

1pm onwards – Flotilla arrives in Pacific Quay in Glasgow and berth up at the ‘pop up marina’ for an overnight stay.
