Coffee morning raises money for MacMillan Cancer Support

Dozens of local people joined the Labour representatives at the Kirkintilloch Miners Welfare club for coffee, cake and conversation – including Kirkintilloch councillor Gemma Welsh and East Dunbartonshire Provost Una Walker.

The event was just one of hundreds that have been held nationwide over the last fortnight as part MacMillan coffee mornings that have been running since 1990.

Neil said: “Everyone knows someone who is affected by cancer. It’s one of the most difficult things we can face in life and it’s comforting to know that charities like Macmillan are working hard to support those in need.

“Last year alone, the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning raised £25 million and, like everyone else organising coffee mornings across the whole community, I hope we can do even better this year and raise even more for such a good cause.”

The money raised from the coffee morning in Kirkintilloch has contributed to a total of over £5.5m which has already been raised this year by the charity from other coffee mornings across the country.

Mary added: “Many of us will have been touched by cancer in one way or another and

experienced the positive difference that the services provided by Macmillan can make to someone living with a cancer diagnosis.

“It is estimated that by 2030, 4 million people in the UK will be living with cancer, therefore, it is more important than ever before that we continue to support organisations like Macmillan who offer crucial support to the increasing number of people who are living with cancer.”
