THE future of our planet is the topic of a roadshow at Balfron Church on Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

There will be presentations and workshops on climate change and its effects on the developing world, and how people’s activities at a local level can make a difference.

The event is being run jointly by staff from Christian Aid and Eco-Congregation Scotland in the church rooms, behind Balfron Church, the Clachan, Balfron, G63 0SY.

Margaret Sparkes from the Balfron Church Eco-Congregation Group, said: “We are fortunate to have the expertise of these two organisations.

“Christian Aid will show videos with personal life stories and current examples of the effects of climate change in the developing world and their work to mitigate them.

“Eco-Congregation is an ecumenical movement making the link between environmental issues and practical action at a personal and community level.

“Together they will provide opportunities for informed discussion and inspiration for lifestyle changes and personal action.

“Although it is 20 years since the Earth Summit in Rio, decision-makers still seem not to have grasped the concept that we are being irresponsible and unjust in squandering the earth’s resources.

“We need to work harder towards sustainability at global, national and local levels. I hope this roadshow will give us information, guidance and inspiration.”

Everyone is welcome. There will be Fairtrade tea, coffee and biscuits. For more information Margaret Sparkes phone 01360 850492 or e-mail:
