Children’s Chorus set to perform at special carol concert

Glasgow Chamber Choir has been awarded a grant from the Carnegie UK Trust to help them stage a special carol concert with Renfrew High School Choir and the East Dunbartonshire Children’s Chorus.

The cash has been used to purchase 40 copies of Carols for Everyone, a new collection of carols specially arranged to be performed by children and adults together. The choir will be performing pieces from the collection at Hyndland Parish Church on Thursday, December 12 at 7.30pm.

Carols for Everyone was commissioned to mark the centenary of the Carnegie UK Trust, and was produced following discussion between the trust and Making Music, the UK’s leading organisation for voluntary music.

Published by Novello, the collection features seven carols arranged for SATB choir and children’s choir. Repertoire of this kind is relatively rare, with the collection having been created to increase the number of children who are able to experience the thrill of performing in a choral concert while enabling choirs to broaden their outreach activities.

Alongside seasonal favourites such as Silent Night and Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer, the collection features I Pray, a new commission from Paul Mealor, famous as the composer of Military Wives Choir number one single, Wherever you are, as well as music from the 2011 royal wedding.

Glasgow Chamber Choir was founded in 1994, making 2014 their 20th anniversary year. Building on the last 20 years of experience, this year they will be holding a gala reunion concert with former members of the choir. They will also tour the Netherlands for an exchange visit with St Joris Chamber Choir.
