Bearsden Literary Society is thrilled to announce that Julia Donaldson will be speaking at the opening meeting of their 2013/14 session.
The well-known children’s author and former children’s laureate from Bearsden will be talking about her writing career including the importance of the illustrations in her books and how they tie up with the story on the page.
Julia Donaldson is best known for her popular rhyming stories for children, especially those illustrated by Axel Scheffler, which include The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom and Stick Man. She originally wrote songs for children’s television but has concentrated on writing books since the words of one of her songs, “A Squash and a Squeeze”, were made into a children’s book in 1993. Of her 184 published works, 64 are widely available in bookshops.
Julia’s talk is at 7.45pm on Monday, October 14 in St Andrew’s RC Church, Bearsden.
The society welcomes all who are interested.
Anne Merry, committee member of Bearsden Literary Society, said: “Current and new members will be able to look forward to an interesting and varied programme of meetings which start with Julia’s visit and should appeal to a wide range of tastes.
“Non members are also welcome for a charge of £4.
“This will be the first year that the society is holding its meetings on a monthly basis. “In addition to monthly meetings the society is planning to have two outings to local places of interest over the course of the session, which are in keeping with our reputation for warmth, friendliness and having good fun.”
