There will be some changes to a number of the refuse and recycling collection arrangements in East Dunbartonshire over the festive period.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday collections will run two days behind between Christmas Day through until January 3.

Collections on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve will be on their usual day.

Normal collections will resume on Monday, January 6 and people are being asked to ensure their bin/food caddy is out for collection by 7am on the relevant collection day.

Ashay Ghai, depute leader of the council and convenor of neighbourhood services, hopes people will help out the environment by recycling all they can over the festive period.

He said: “At this time of year there is often more waste in households due to increased packaging from food items and gifts.

“We are recycling more than ever but I would encourage all residents to try and recycle as much as possible, either through the kerbside collection scheme or at any of the council’s 20 recycling sites throughout the area.

“Residents can find detailed information on the location, opening times and what can be recycled at our recycling sites on our website, by calling 0300 123 4510, or by e-mailing and watch out for our Christmas tree recycling scheme in the new year.”

The Mavis Valley Refuse and Recycling Centre site will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and also on January 1 and 2.

Over the festive period the site will operate within winter working hours and will be open to the public Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm and Saturday/Sunday between 8.30am and 4.30pm.
