Over twenty adult learners were invited to attend a learner achievement celebration in Cumbernauld College’s East Dunbartonshire Campus of Further and Higher Education, in Kirkintilloch’s Southbank Marina, recently.

The inspirational learners are on the path to brighter futures thanks to pioneering courses offered by East Dunbartonshire Council and community partners.

Certificates were issued to learners for completing a range of courses teaching particular skills.

The classes included:

- Getting Started In Care : Bringing together unemployed people from various backgrounds to gain knowledge in an area vital to East Dunbartonshire, given the demographics of the area.

- Work Preparation: An eight-week course for learners who are unemployed, but keen to get back into the labour market.

- Moneywise: Helping participants improve money management and budgeting - a vital life skill, particularly in the current financial climate.

In addition, learners from Group Recovery and Aftercare Community Enterprise (GRACE) received certificates for their work on a personal development course.

The community-managed group is based in Kirkintilloch and supports individuals and families facing considerable issues.

Depute Council Leader Ashay Ghai handed out certificates at the ceremony and was delighted to meet some of the proud recipients.

Councillor Ghai said: “This is the second Learner Achievement Celebration we have held here at the East Dunbartonshire Campus in Kirkintilloch and it is great to see even more people successfully completing their courses.
