Celebrating Fairtrade in Lenzie

The town’s status has been renewed until July 2018 following a recent review and the local community are keen to mark the occasion.

The concert is called A Musical Treat for Fairtrade and will be hosted by Donald Macleod from the church. Donald is a noted musician and former performer with the RSNO. He will conduct Cathedral Strings who will play some of the best known and loved classical pieces.

Also performing will be Arcara, a recorder group whose performance was enthusiastically received at the Campsie Mayfest earlier this year. Anyone who learned to play the recorder at school will be amazed at the quality of music these instruments can produce, and to demonstrate this Arcara will be playing the African Suite No 2 Pina ya phala by Soren Sieg. There will be a Fairtrade stalls in the church and hall open from 7pm with the concert starting promptly at 7.30pm.

As usual for a Lenzie Fairtrade event there will be stalls to browse before the concert and during the interval when refreshments will be served.

Many people may have heard that the Coach House in Balmore is to close its doors early in 2017 and John Riches the founding Director there will have interesting news about the continuity of Fairtrade supply in East Dunbartonshire.

The addition of Arcara and the very latest local Fairtrade news from John Riches of the Coach House in Balmore will make this an interesting and enjoyable evening for all who come along”.

The Lenzie Fairtrade Group looks forward to welcoming many residents to join them at this Concert to celebrate the renewal of Lenzie’s Fairtrade Town status. To cover costs, there will be an admission charge of £5 per adult but no charge for school age children.
