A group of STAR employees from East Dunbartonshire Council have been recognised for going the extra mile at a special ceremony.
Standing for ‘Special Thanks and Recognition’, the STARs awards were held recently at St Ninian’s High School, in Kirkintilloch.
They are now going to be held annually, with five different categories decided upon by a panel of judges.
This year, the ‘Employee Award - Going the extra mile (internally nominated)’ went to Reva Hart, a school learning assistant from Bearsden Primary School
Meanwhile, the ‘Employee Award - Going the extra mile (externally nominated)’ was presented to Andy Lynch, WALK Development Officer, Allander Sports Centre (EDLC Trust).
Robbie Pollock, an Information and Communications Technology Analyst, landed the ‘Apprentice of the Year (internally nominated)’ gong.
And the ‘Team Award – Going the extra mile (internally nominated)’ was given to the Supporting Families Team, in the council’s Early Years department.
Finally, when it came to the ‘Team Award – Going the extra mile (externally nominated)’ prize the judging panel had a particularly difficult job in even narrowing down cadidates to a shortlist of three.
Having decided three finalists it was felt that each submission was so strong and so different that they could not separate them, agreeing that Lairdsland Primary School Team, Kelvinbank ‘Small Talk Cafe’ Support Team and Hillhead Community Centre Caretaking and Cleaning Staff, would all receive awards.
Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: “I wish to congratulate each and every winner, as well as those who reached the finals. The standard of submissions was exceptional and it was a tough task to agree the finalists.
“Our STARs Awards have been designed to celebrate employee success and recognise outstanding contributions and it is ever more important to formally recognise this in the challenging financial climate and continuous transformation agenda that our services face.
“It was a lovely celebration and a great opportunity to say thank you to our winners.
“Finally, I would like to thank the members of the public who took the time to nominate teams and individuals who they thought deserved some recognition; this was much appreciated.”
