ST MUNGO LAGER arrived in Bearsden last week and we’ve got a super competition to mark the occasion.
We’ve teamed up with Glasgow’s WEST Brewery and the Burnbrae Inn to offer readers a chance to see how the lager is made - with some tastings and a two-course meal as well.
Readers took advantage of the free samples at Bearsden’s Burnbrae Inn last Thursday and manager Gerry Savage said: “The tasting night went really well and we sold a lot of St Mungo lager over the weekend.
“We are delighted to be supporting a local brewery and offering our customers something a bit different from the bigger branded beers. It looks like being a good addition to our premier beers.”
St Mungo is the flagship premium lager of WEST Brewery - sharing the name of Glasgow’s patron saint who founded Glasgow Cathedral and was also part of a fellowship of brewer monks.
WEST Brewery is situated at Glasgow Green in the Templeton Building, former home of the iconic carpet factory, which was designed by Victorian architect William Leiper, and is modelled on the Doge’s Palace in Venice.
It was built between 1888 and 1892 and was used as a production carpet factory until the 1950s. The building is unique in terms of its design and construction, and is now one of Glasgow’s most protected sites.
Petra Wetzel, WEST owner and managing director, said: “We operate one of the most advanced small breweries in the UK here in our Glasgow operation.
“Imported from Germany, our brewery offers true cutting-edge technology enabling us to produce beers of the most exacting quality and consistency.
“From our high copper chimneys through to our fully-automated control system, we mix time-honoured tradition and modern innovation in our brewery.
“At WEST, we are just as passionate about our food as we are about our beer. Our award-winning chef has created a delicious menu, incorporating the superb natural produce of Scotland with our individual perspective on German and European food styles.
“Our approach to food reflects our brewing ethos, taking the very best natural ingredients and preparing them purely and simply, creating mouth-watering food at affordable prices. Inspired by the fantastic reviews we have had in the UK press, we are constantly on the hunt for new and innovative dishes to bring to you.
“We’re also very child friendly at WEST, and have toys, special seating and a healthy children’s menu to ensure that our little visitors to the brewery are well looked after.”
Our competition prize is a tour of the brewery for four with tastings plus a two-course meal, not including drinks. in the WEST restaurant.
