SCORES of Clydesdale villagers fear that, against their will, they are to be forced out of their homes and away from a community they have lived in for decades.

Now council house tenants in four streets in Carstairs Junction are awaiting to hear their fate at a special event being held in the village next week.

Tenants in Allison Street, Allison Place, King Street and Pettinain Road received a letter from the council last week, asking them to attend the meeting in the village community hall on Wedensday, March 12.

One of those to receive the letter, Ruth Johnston of Allison Street, fears the worst for both the home she has lived in for 13 years and the tenants of the other 70 or so 1920s-vintage homes there.

“I think the council plans to move us all out and demolish the whole lot,” said Ruth.

“I hear that those who have bought their council houses in the area are to be approached with some sort of proposal soon but those of us who are still council tenants have been sent this letter which says the council wants to ask how we would feel about being moved somewhere else.”
