Carluke Brickworks site demolition is almost finished

The site, which closed its doors for the last time in October 2011, is now being quickly dismantled following safety concerns.

It is not known what will become of the site, located on Wilton Road, but it certainly brings a chapter of the town’s rich industrial history to a close.

Carluke councillor Eileen Logan is saddened at the demise of the old brickworks.

She said: “I think it is very sad for people like me who have always lived in Carluke to see the demolition taking place.

“A lot of people will have had their dads or brothers working in the brickworks and it was a great source of local employment for people.

“It was a great employer; there were great jobs for the people who worked there and it really helped the local economy.

“It’s synonymous with Carluke.”
