STAFF at a Bearsden care home have been honoured at an awards ceremony for their commitment to their work.

Canniesburn Care Home was nominated in eight of the 12 categories at the inaugural Thistle Healthcare and Associated Homes Awards Ceremony.

Independent judges appointed by Thistle, the parent company of the care home, whittled down hundreds of nominations in June.

Margaret Callaghan was awarded Manager of the Year, Tracey Robb was Nurse of the Year, activity co-ordinator Lorraine Marshall was judged Personality of the Year, receptionist Kelly Daw was Customer Care Person of the Year, Sauchiehall Street Dementia Unit - made up of a dedicated team at the home - was awarded Dementia Services of the Year and deputy manager Linda Matheson won Training and Development of the Year category.

Linda also impressed the judges with her knowledge and understanding of the complex issues within a care home and was awarded Champion of the Year.

A runner-up award went to Pat O’Shea for Activities and Cathy MacKenzie and Elaine Stirling were also runners-up for Carer of the Year.

The judges and senior members of Thistle Healthcare presented the awards at a luncheon held in The Holiday Inn, East Kilbride.

Mrs Callaghan said: “I am very proud of the staff I have at Canniesburn. Our awards are evidence of the good care provided here. It is a great achievement and a team effort to be upgraded on the Care and Support theme from a grade 2 to a grade 4 within the past year.

“The awards is a great way to show the staff that their hard work and dedication to our service users has not gone unnoticed. Everyone had a wonderful time at the ceremony and I am delighted Canniesburn brought home seven awards.”
