Calls for flooded path clean-up

According to Louise Miller, recent stormy weather has made matters worse on the path that connects Rannoch Drive and Kinnaird Crescent, in Bearsden.

Irresponsible dog walkers who do not clean up after their pets are also part of the problem.

Mrs Miller, who has lived in Rannoch Drive for the past 12 years, said: “The flooding has been reported to the council. They do come out and clear the drains, but they pile the debris up nearby and it is then just washed back down into the drains.”

The mum regularly uses the path to take her six-year-old son Elliot to school. She says the water is quite deep and people need to step on a small kerb to get past.

She added: “My son attends Killermont Primary and this footpath is used daily by residents and many school children to get to and from school. However, the path is continually flooded or full of dog mess.

“This has been reported by numerous residents and parents over the years.”

Susan Sciberras-Boyd, from Killermont After School Club, added: “We walk about 20 children through this path in the morning and 40 in the afternoon.

“Some of them are as young as P1 and if we have to make a detour it can take another 10 minutes in the morning and 25 in the afternoon.

“I’ve contacted the council three or four times but they don’t seem to care.”

Grace Irvine, director of neighbourhood services at the council, said: “This path is not adopted by East Dunbartonshire Council so we have no responsibility to maintain it.

“However, out of courtesy we have, in the past, cleaned the existing drain to help keep it clear.”

She added: “As this has been highlighted to us again we will visit and clear the drain thoroughly.”
