Brave souls are being urged to take part in an open water swimming event on New Year’s Day to raise cash for a good cause.
Vigour Events is organising the freezing cold plunge into Bardowie Loch to kick off its series of open water swims in for 2014 and to raise funds for Friends of Loch Lomond.
A similar event, the ‘Loony Dook Swim’, takes place every year in the River Forth, at South Queensferry. Last year more than 1000 people took part, many in fancy dress.
A spokesperson for the Bardowie event, the first ever open water New Year’s Day swim to take place in the area, said: “If you like swimming in the outdoors with beautiful countryside as the backdrop, then open water swimming is for you.
“Join Vigour Events in our swims across the beautiful lochs of Scotland.
“With swims available for all abilities, whether it be your first open water swim or a challenging 10k, we have something to suit all.
“Baltic @ Bardowie on New Year’s Day is the only event of its type in the area and is sure to be a fantastic day with a fun atmosphere.
“With the entry fee being a donation only to our chosen charity Friends of Loch Lomond, what better way to kick-start your new year?”
The event will have open water safety management staff at hand as the health and safety of participants is of upmost importance.
As well as holding a series of annual events, Vigour Events also runs weekly open water coaching sessions, all year round, with qualified National Open Water Coaching Assosiation coaches offering helpful hints and tips.
