Locals were concerned that an accident was going to happen as they had not beenworking since December 30.

Penny McElhinney, from Bardowie, said: “I’m surprised the council didn’t get this sorted out as soon as the problem was noticed. It’s a busy junction and visibility from the road out of Tesco is not great when turning right.”

When we contacted East Dunbartonshire Council on December 31 they said the roads team and Siemens Mobility Solutions, who provide traffic signal control equipment for them, were trying to repair the lights. They thought a part might be needed, which could have delayed the repair.

Temporary traffic lights would only be have been put in place if requested by Police Scotland.

An underground cable was causing the fault, which was fixed on Tuesday this week.
