The former Milngavie Book Shop in Douglas Street is set for a bright new future as an interior decor business, according to entrepreneur Jim McDiarmid.
He says the venture will specialise in deluxe floor covering – he is an industry-approved master fitter – and will feature exclusive international merchandise of the kind that cannot be found on the internet, offering everything from hand-made carpets to ceramic tiles.
Due to open in around a month, the business will be called Chardon Interior Solutions, since “Chardon” is French for “thistle” – an iconic Scottish image which appears on the building in several places.
Mr McDiarmid said: “It is a very conspicuous site, and we’ll be painting it white to brighten it up – and I think once we are open a lot of people will want to enjoy seeing what we aim to have on display.”
Milngavie Book Shop closed earlier this year after 11 years. Its owner said the growth of online books and Kindle had taken their toll on trade.
