Breaking news: horsemeat fears see burgers pulled from Milngavie and Bearsden schools

BEEF burgers have been pulled from all school dinner menus in East Dunbartonshire over fears of horsemeat contamination.

Council chiefs moved quickly after horse DNA was found in a burger in a school kitchen in North Lanarkshire.

East Dunbartonshire Council said that while no contamination has been found here, beef burgers are off the menu as a precaution.

Head of Assets and Property Services, Grace Irvine said: “East Dunbartonshire Council has placed a hold on the use of all frozen beef burger products currently stored within our catering premises on the advice of our procurement agency, Scotland Excel.

“We await further instruction from Scotland Excel pending their investigations.”
