TAXI fares could be set to rise across East Dunbartonshire if operators get their way.
Cabbies want prices to go up by more than 10 per cent for some journeys under proposals they have put to East Dunbartonshire Council.
They say a rise is necessary to take into account rising fuel, insurance and repair costs.
Currently, a three mile journey costs £5.60 but this would rise to £6.20 - a rise of 10.5 per cent - under East Dunbartonshire Taxi Owners Association proposals.
A meeting of the council’s policy and resources committee this week agreed to start negotiations with cabbies’ representatives.
