The Scottish Wildlife Trust (SWT)has welcomed new measures introduced by the Environment and Climate Change Minister, Paul Wheelhouse to tackle raptor persecution.

SWT CEO Simon Milne said: “The illegal killing of some of our most majestic species such as golden eagle, hen harrier and red kite threatens to undo much of the good work achieved thus far by conservation organisations and the majority of landowners who want to protect and restore Scotland’s wildlife and wild places.

“In addition, this irresponsible behaviour damages Scotland’s reputation as a nation synonymous with spectacular wildlife and a glorious natural heritage.

“We fully endorse the new measures and we sincerely hope that they act as a deterrent to those individuals who think that the illegal killing of raptors is worth the risk and so continue to indulge in such sickening activities.”
