Bearsden pensioner dies in custody awaiting trial for wife’s murder

An 86-year-old man from Bearsden has died in custody while awaiting trail for his wife’s murder.

Neil Clark was arrested last month after police found the body of Francine, 70, at her home in Fintry Gardens, Baljaffray.

He was then charged with murder and appeared before Dumbarton Sheriff Court where he made no plea or declaration.

Mr Clark had since been on remand since June 12 at HMP Low Moss in Bishopbriggs.

He was expected to face trial at a later date but officials with the Scottish Prison Service confirmed he had died on July 15.

A spokesperson for the service said: “Police have been advised and the matter will be reported to the procurator fiscal.

“Next of kin have been informed and a fatal accident inquiry will be held in due course.”

It is understood Clark was being treated as a hospital in-patient at the time of his death.
