THERE have been calls to address the ‘nightmare’ shortage of much needed nursery places in East Dunbartonshire.
In the wake of the shock closure of Little Gems nurseries in Milngavie and Westerton, MP Jo Swinson is demanding action by East Dunbartonshire Council.
She is urging it to adopt a strategy to find a way to address the lack places in the district.
In a letter to the head of education, Gordon Currie, she states: “The council may not be to blame for the Little Gems nursery closures but they are part and parcel of a larger problem.
“They have been promising a strategic review of nursery provision for almost two years, with no sign of it year.
“Local parents really depend on nurseries to help them juggle work and family life.
“The Council needs to make sure there is adequate provision and do more to keep nurseries open.”
