CHILDREN will be able to get a taste of music and drama by going along to a brand new summer school being run by an award winning Bearsden musician.
Fiona Hunter (28), daughter of Joyce Hunter, who is well known in Bearsden as she was a clerical assistant in Bearsden Primary for many years, is in the popular Scottish folk band Malinky.
Her summer school is aimed at seven to 11 year olds and wil be held at Maxholme on Roman Road, Bearsden from Monday, August 1 to the 5.
Malinky was named Scottish Folk Band of the Year in the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards last year and Fiona was nominated as Scots singer of the year although she unfortunately didn’t win the title.
As well as touring with her band all over the world she has been working for the National Youth Choir of Scotland as a vocal instructor as part of the Youth Music Initiative for the last five years and she teaches in schools throughout Glasgow.
Fiona, a former pupil of Bearsden Primary School and Bearsden Academy, said: “I really enjoy working with young people through music and decided that it would be great to run a summer school in Bearsden this year. It will be great fun for youngsters who’d like to do something a little bit different during their holidays.”
