These are the seasonal UK ice rinks opening for Christmas 2020
For many, the annual festive trip to the ice rink is a chance to show off their skills on a pair of skates. For others, being able to stand up straight and glide along the ice is a victory. This year, the trip to the rink may look slightly different with the coronavirus pandemic still hanging over the nation.
Although some Christmas markets have been forced to cancel their 2020 festivities across the UK, people looking for some fun on the ice might be in luck. The good news is that some UK Christmas ice rinks are still opening, albeit with some differences.
Here’s everything you need to know about the openings.
What ice rinks have been confirmed?
Currently only a small number of Christmas ice rinks across the UK have confirmed that they will open in 2020.
Edinburgh has altered its annual Christmas market, with locations being spread around the city centre. The ice rink will feature as part of the festivities, moving from its traditional location on St Andrew Square, to George Street for this year.
Cambridge has confirmed its ice rink will be opening for the winter season, and will feature a clear roof to allow skaters to hit the ice no matter the weather.
In Kent, skating in Tunbridge Wells returns for its 10th year for the 2020 Christmas season. Tickets are available to book now.
Liverpool has also confirmed its winter wonderland and Christmas ice festival are go for 2020.
Indoor ice rinks
If your local Christmas market has been cancelled this year, an alternative could be looking for an indoor ice rink.
