Biggar Calendar Girls make a date for Lanark

After all, when they created their civic edifice nearly ninety years ago, would any of them have ever DREAMED its stage would be graced by a cast of topless women?

However, in all probability, they would have, to a man, let their ultra-respectable po-faces break into a wide smile if they’d ever had a chance to actually see that true modern British comedy classic Calendar Girls.

The show, produced by that semi-legendary champion of local threatre BJ McComis, has become perhaps the nation’s most-performed am-dram production since the true story of a group of Yorkshire Women’s Institute members who bared all for charity in the Nineties was turned into a hit film and stage play. 
BJ explains: “We scored a major hit with the show at the 2013 Biggar Little Festival with it selling out for every night of the five-night run.

“So, for those who couldn’t get to see it in Biggar, we wanted to put it on at the Memorial Hall.”
