Cadder coffee shop’s lockdown meals on wheels for vulnerable Bishopbriggs folk

That was the grateful response from one of the local people to 
benefit from a lunch delivery service run during lockdown by members of Cadder Parish Church at Bishopbriggs.

When the church’s popular Coffee Shop had to close in March due to government restrictions, manager Jacqueline Burns and her team of volunteers swung into action 
to help some of the more 
vulnerable members of the congregation.

Over the past 15 weeks, the team has prepared and delivered more than 900 meals to parishioners in the town

The team has now been stood down as the Coffee Shop closes for its summer break, but the church continues to provide a shopping service for members who still require it.

Jacqueline said: “The last 15 weeks have gone very quickly and it has been a pleasure supporting our members through this difficult period.

“As we have now moved into the next phase of the Scottish Government’s Route Map out of lockdown the decision has been taken to close the coffee shop for its annual summer break.

“This will enable us to work with the Church of Scotland and East Dunbartonshire Council to plan for re-opening when it is safe to do so.

“However, the shopping service will continue to run. I would like to thank the church’s Shops Team Convener, Aileen Jilks, for all her help, to everyone who supported us by baking, food preparation and delivering meals, and for all the kind donations.”
