Switched on High School of Glasgow win digital award

Recognised by Education Scotland, the Digital Schools Award is designed to promote, encourage and reward schools that make the best use of digital technology inside the classroom.

Following an intensive virtual validation visit, the school received glowing feedback from external validator, Catherine Cunningham, who has recommended The High School become a mentor school for the programme.

The school was commended for its comprehensive digital strategy, its creative and innovative use of digital technology to enhance pupils' learning experience, and for an ongoing commitment to professional digital learning for teachers.

It was also marked highly throughout, scoring over 90% in all five assessment categories, and achieving an incredible 100% in Digital Learning & Teaching, and Resources & Infrastructure.

The award comes as High School teachers and pupils return to the classroom following their second stint of home learning.

The award recognises the hard work and significant team effort that has gone into enhancing digital lessons and teaching throughout lockdown, describing this work as 'exceptional'.

Digital Schools Scotland Assessor, Catherine Cunningham said: "The school is clearly on a mission to prepare its pupils for living and working in the 21st Century and are well on their way to achieving this.

"I was in awe of some of the outstanding work going on across all departments."

High School of Glasgow Rector, Mr John O'Neill said: "We are delighted to receive this award with its recognition of the commitment, collaboration and creativity displayed by our staff and pupils across the school; it has been a real team effort.

"It is especially valued in a year where the continuity of education of our young people depended upon the digital landscape more than ever.

"As teachers we teach not for our futures, but for our pupils' futures.

"This award recognises that in all we are pursuing as a school, we are staying true to that purpose."

A substantial proportion of High School pupils live in the Milngavie and Bearsden area.
