Local kids help Children In Need

The school raised £814.43 by organising a variety of events including a dress down day with a ‘spot-tacular’ theme, which invited the children and staff to wear spotty items of clothing.

The pupils also took part in zumba classes and held games such as guess the number of sweets in a jar, guess the weight of a cake and there was a baking sale.

Children at Bearsden Primary School also joined in the fun by dressing in spotty clothes and each class held their own games and activities. They raised £514 for the appeal.

Children In Need raised a record £46.6m this year, in the first broadcast since Sir Terry Wogan, the late presenter, died in January.

Many tributes were paid to the veteran broadcaster who presented the annual charity event for 35 years until he had to pull out due to poor health last year.

A fundraiser of the year trophy was awarded in his memory to Lauchlan Muir, from West Lothian, a boy who raises funds by being a “human statue”.

Sir Terry’s son Mark, who presented the award, said the late presenter’s family were “hugely grateful” for the “amazing tributes”.

Presenter Rochelle Humes said Sir Terry would have been proud of this year’s “absolutely incredible” total.

Last November’s Children In Need show raised £37.1m on the night.

The 2016 show featured special editions of the popular BBC TV show Strictly Come Dancing with Team GB Olympic squad members and some members of the cast of EastEnders.
