The school’s Design Technology Department stepped in to help by using their 3D printer to make the masks, which are in high demand to protect health service workers and reduce the spread of Covid-19.

Ross Greer, Scottish Green MSP for the West of Scotland and a former pupil of Bearsden Academy, has lodged a parliamentary motion to congratulate the school.

He said: “Bearsden Academy are once again leading by example in answering this call.

“These masks are essential in the effort to tackle Covid-19 and demonstrate how any group with a 3D printer can make a vital contribution right now.”

Mr Greer also asked Parliament to “encourage schools and other groups or people with 3D-printers to join in this effort, and recognises that provision of PPE (personal protective equipment) to NHS and other key workers is a vital part of the efforts against Covid-19”.
